Biography

François-Dominique Toussaint Louverture was a Haitian general and the most prominent leader of the Haitian Revolution. Born into slavery, he rose to become the commander of the rebel forces and negotiated the end of slavery in Saint-Domingue. He is regarded as the "Father of Haiti" and a symbol of freedom.
