Columbus Arrives in the Caribbean

On October 12, 1492, Christopher Columbus and his crew aboard the Niña, Pinta, and Santa María landed on an island in the Bahamas, which the indigenous Lucayan people called Guanahani. This event marked the beginning of sustained European contact with the Americas and profoundly changed the course of Caribbean history.
