There is a case to be made that Trinidad Carnival is the greatest cultural event in the Caribbean, and the 2024 edition did nothing to weaken that argument. From Jouvert — the pre-dawn street party that opens the festivities with mud, paint, and old-mas characters — through to the Tuesday night road march, the energy was relentless.
The large bands — Tribe, Bliss, YUMA — had their best costume designs in years, with several sections drawing on Amerindian and African iconography in ways that felt genuinely connected to the island's history rather than merely decorative. The soca lineup was strong: Machel Montano's road march contender was already an anthem by the time the bands crossed the stage, and several younger artists announced themselves as serious forces.
For visitors, the infrastructure has improved significantly. Hotels, transport, and fete organisation were all sharper than in previous years. If you have never been, 2025 is your year.
